The Atlanta rapper usually known for his deeper thoughts and conscious rap sounds, comes into his latest project, ‘Pup Pack: 1st Shift’ with a complete switch of sound.
The project opens with ‘Loyalty’, where Kenny starts us off with this light hearted melody, almost spaceship eery sound before introducing his typical deep vocals. In the track the artist explores ideas of trust, loyalty, and honesty using his past experiences. The lyrics feel like a complete contrast to the up tempo of the beat.
‘A1’ starts off with a similar beat, but right off the bat you know it’s deeper than that. Kenny dives deeper into his quest to find love, play of words with the title suggesting Day 1. Lastly, my favourite track, ‘Burn It Up’, instantly kicks off with the deep rock drums and electric guitar sounds. Something we have not yet seen Mr Mason explore as of yet, but he certainly was keeping it locked up for a reason.
All in all, the project is a deep 3 track cycle that gives listeners a lot of different ideas and sounds to explore. I think it’s safe to say his next full album will be one for the books.
