I know I am a bit late to the party here, truth be told, I have been an avid listener of Diorvsyou for about the past half a year but I have just never gotten around to writing a blog about his work. Why? I have no idea. What I do know though is his appearance last night on Song Wars hosted by Plaqueboymax was something very special and has forced me into writing on his last project – ‘Untitled Ep.9’.
Anyone familiar with the US underground knows that Diorvsyou is right up there at the moment, he’s well in that discussion with Sk8star, Nine Vicious, Thirteendegrees, PBS, and more. The title of this album already sets you up and let’s you know what you are in for, a great listen. No fancy title, just straight up good music. Another thing to note is ‘9’, suggesting the 9th edition and one can only wonder what journey Diorvsyou has been on. I have not listened that far back yet, but for me I will definitely have to look further and dive into it.
The sounds you get from Diorvsyou contains heavy hitting bass, layered with some glitchy futuristic sounds, with his vocals fitting in effortlessly. He has been able to refine and distill his influences of rock and R&B into his own unique take with raw, hip-hop-meets-experimental-energy. Lyrically he is able to give us an insight into his world and how he perseveres through tough times as he describes growing in the burning world around him. That’s what makes this album so worth listening, the fact that every song has it’s own feel and story, no fillers here.
