black british music – ‘Jim Legxacy’

James Folorunso Ifeanyi Olaloye, known as Jim Legxacy is a British artist and producer from the streets of Lewisham, South East London. And when I say streets, I do not mean it lightly. Since discovering Jim through one of his recent tracks and smash hit music videos directed by Lauzza, ‘father‘ and then later, ‘stick’, which was more in the build up to his album, ‘black british music’.

Jim is known for his retro aesthetic and sound, while mixing in modern day sounds to generate something completely unheard of before. ‘black british music’ takes deep dives into his upbringing, struggles, and climb to where he is today. The melodies are nostalgic and his vocals, just complimentary. With features from other UK superstars such as Dave and Fimiguerrero, The Lewisham artist pays his respects to the greats of his Nations.

The album is able to captivate the ups and downs of Jim’s life, with him discovering himself and providing context behind his childhood struggles with his loss of his father, his brother’s psychosis, and health issues with his mother. It’s not all just doom and gloom though, as further down the project we are blessed with Jamaican-inspired beats that bring the life of the party, and this truly shows the range that Jim holds. The artist also gives a jab at artists who ‘bite swag’ on ‘stick’.

His sound is unique and world-combining of various different sounds, there is nothing he cannot do with this level of talent. For him, it’s incredible how he has been able to turn his life around and share his stories to inspire future generations to come.
